How are we feeling about the Endgame portal scene five years later?

by @beawong · about Avengers: Endgame

Watching that entire theater lose its collective mind during the hero walkout is still the peak of my moviegoing life. I honestly don't think anything else will ever hit that hard again.

That moment when the music swells and you hear Cap say it, my whole row just erupted. I still catch myself replaying that specific shot on my phone sometimes when I need a boost, even if the rest of the movie feels like a lot to take in all at once.

The sound mix on that sequence is actually insane though, you can hear the spatial separation in the audio as each character steps through which is why the impact felt so visceral in a theater. Still think the jump cuts during the initial arrival were a little choppy, but the scale of it is hard to argue with.

Honestly the noise in my theater was so loud I couldn't even hear the score for a solid minute, but that shot of cap tightening his strap alone makes me miss the days when blockbusters actually felt like events. I still think the frantic handheld camera work during the chaos is the only part that doesn't hold up as well though.
