why does the ending of black hawk down feel so heavy?

it just drops you right into the chaos without letting you breathe, but that final shot of the chopper leaving honestly haunts me. i cant stop thinking about how the whole pace shifts in those last few minutes.

it is literally non-stop noise and gunfire until that final quiet moment hits, which is honestly the only time the movie lets you actually process how much of a meat grinder that whole mission was. that sound design during the convoy scenes is still some of the loudest stuff i have ever heard.

The audio mix was abrasive enough that I almost missed how carefully they framed those interior shots of the vehicle, which felt claustrophobic in a way that had nothing to do with the decibel level. That final silence really is the only part of the film that lets the visuals actually breathe.
